Buckley -
James “Jim” Henry Rubin, 76, of Buckley, passed away unexpectedly Saturday October 13, 2018 at his home. Jim was born June 11, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Henry James and Dorothy M. Rubin.
Following his graduation from Roscommon High School in 1965, where he was a great athlete and champion speed skater, Jim went on to join the Army, becoming a member of the Green Beret Special Forces Group. He was also a Member of A622 as a Communicates Technician. Jim then went on to earn a degree in engineering at Ferris State University.
Jim married Karen Miller on August 20, 1991. They were married for 27 years. Karen was at his side as he passed.
After his time in the service, Jim went on to become a Conservation Officer for the State of Michigan where he served 26 years before retiring on August 8, 1998 with his wife Karen.
Jim was a very kind and loving individual who spent his life serving others. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and being in the outdoors, as well as spending time with his family. Jim also had a passion for crafting and participated in the Interlochen and Frankfort Farmers Markets on the weekends with his wife Karen.
Jim is survived by his wife Karen, his children Amy Rubin (Jeremiah), Aaron Rubin (Tamela); grandchildren Garrett, Makayla, and Gabe Luther, Austin and Parker Rubin; his brother Keith Rubin (Denise), Step Brother Mike Brown (Kay), as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his father Henry James Rubin, mother Dorothy M. Geiger, stepfather Carl Lewis Geiger, and grandson Gavin Michael Luther.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday October 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at 10:00 a.m. for family at Covell Funeral Home, 200 N. Brownson Ave., Kingsley. A graveside service with military honors will follow at Cornell Cemetery in Buckley, MI.
