It is with great sadness that the family of Daniel Phillips Sr., known to friends and family as Danny, passed away on October 21, 2018, at the age of 68 at his home in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Danny was born on March 7, 1950 in Wilmington, North Carolina, but lived in St. Petersburg Florida for many years.
Danny was a retired Police Officer of St. Petersburg, Florida Police Department and a previous volunteer firefighter for South Wilmington Volunteer Fire Department. He loved to fish, hunt, or just being able to enjoy the great outdoors. He was a civil war enthusiast and would even correct the experts.
Danny was preceded by his daughter, Gracey Phillips, his mother, Lydia Ann Meadows, his father, Richard Allen Hogan, and adoptive father, Ralph Phillips. Danny will be sadly missed by his family, daughter, Rachel (John) Rivenbark of Bolivia, North Carolina, son, Daniel (Cyndi) Phillips of St. Petersburg, Florida, and son, Joshua Phillips of Happy Valley, Oregon. Forever remembered by his sister, Susan (John) Getty of Jacksonville, North Carolina and loving dog, Durango, which was by his side. Danny had four granddaughters, Cynthia (Kyle) Hurlburt of Boiling Spring Lakes, North Carolina, Amber (David) Nunalee of Supply, North Carolina, Brittani Phillips of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Samantha Clayton of St. Petersburg, Florida. Three great-granddaughters, Kyla, Abigail, and Gracie Hurlburt. Niece, Renee Brown, nephew, Jimmy (Aimee) Brown, and niece, Rebecca (Thomas) Cooper. Danny also had several great and great-great nieces and nephews. Danny also had a companion, Sally Barbee and a best friend since early childhood, Jimmy Cribb.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 26, 2018 at Johnsons Funeral Home in Jacksonville, North Carolina at 2:00 pm. The funeral will be held at 3:00 pm following the visitation at Johnsons Funeral Home. Pastor Cedric Spearmon will be presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Danny can be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and the NRA, which he was a lifetime member of.
