Jane Louise Glover, 71, of New London, CT, passed away in Atlanta, GA on Oct. 13th, 2018. Known to her friends as "The Mayor", Jane was born in Nebraska City, NE, January 26, 1947. She was the daughter of Mary M. Givehand and Luther D. Givehand.
Jane was a successful community activist who graduated from Nebraska City High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree at Peru State College and a Master's degree in Library Science from the University of Rhode Island. She taught for a year in New London public schools before serving as president of the Connecticut Education Association. She also worked for many years as a children’s librarian in the New London and Groton Public Libraries.
Very civic minded, she served as a Democrat on the Board of Education and City Council, including three terms as ceremonial mayor. She was Chief Administrative Officer under the Mayoral leadership of Daryl Finizio as well as Director of Kente Cultural Center in New London, CT.
She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in New London, CT. She will be sadly missed but will live on in the hearts of her family. She is survived by: Her mother Mary M. Givehand; Two brothers Luther D. Givehand, Robert C. Givehand and wife Julie A. Givehand; Daughter Natalie L. Rowe, and husband Jerald Rowe; Granddaughters. Brooklynn and Jatavia Rowe; Nieces: Sephora , Mahlah, Jael, and Tehra Givehand. She was predeceased by her father Luther D. Givehand.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 11AM until 1PM at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London, CT 06320. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1PM in the funeral home, followed by burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, New London.
