He was the son of Gaze and Rose (Paph) Durst, brother to Dolores Peskin and Gaze Durst Jr. Bob was a dedicated and highly commendated Grand Rapids Police Officer for 25 years, retiring as a detective on the Major Case Team. In 1979, he was honored as “Grand Rapids Police Officer of the Year." He liked hunting, fishing, and family camping at Wilderness State Park. Most of all, he loved his family who remember him as the best open-fire fish and potato fryer on Croton Pond. Until his Lewy Body disease and Parkinson’s progressed, he and Sue delivered for Sunset Meals at Home for 9 years.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Susan (Kitzsteiner), children Daniel Durst, Dianne (Rich) Bramer and David (Kim) Durst, grandchildren Michelle (Ryan) McMahon, Jamie Durst, Katie (Dave) Jacobs, Stephanie (Vinnie) Baza, Richie (Leah) Bramer, David Durst, Eric Durst, Cody Hytinen, and Tyler Tuttle (Steven Smith), great grandchildren Hunter, Addison, and Mya Jacobs, Fiona McMahon, Quinn Baza, and Warren Smith, brother-in-law Mike Peskin and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A casual visitation will be held on Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 12:30 to 2:30 pm at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James St. in Holland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice.
