Mrs. Margaret Millie Hendges passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Good Shepherd George C. Forsythe Hospice House in Auburndale at age 100.
She was born on September 25, 1918 in Saginaw, Michigan to John R. and Maud (Phillion) Malone. She attended Central High School in Lansing, Michigan where she met the love of her life, Charles Hendges. They were married for over 48 wonderful years of caring, loving and sharing together a love to dance, a love for camping, nature and traveling, and a deep love for their family. She enjoyed the wonder of travel, which included: Dakar, Senegal, Africa; Bogota, Columbia; and Maui, Hawaii.
In her early married life, she worked as a legal stenographer in Lansing, MI. While Charlie was fighting in WWII as a Navy Seabee in the Pacific Islands, Margaret raised her daughter, Lois, at her parents’ home. In peace time, her family grew to include son, Ken. Margaret taught Sunday School at Lansing’s Central Methodist Church and was a very active parent for her children’s school and scouting activities. Margaret and her husband Charlie retired from Lansing to their cabin on Littlefield Lake in central Michigan where family and friends were always welcome. In 2003, Margaret and her son Ken relocated from Michigan to Haines City, Florida to be near family.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Hendges, infant son Raymond Hendges, and brother Norman Malone. She is survived by her loving family: daughter, Lois (Gerald) Duel; son, Ken Hendges; grandson, Don (Courtney) Hulce; and great-grandson, Patrick (Megan) Hulce. Her family was so grateful to be able to celebrate together this beautiful woman’s 100th birthday on September 25th, 2018.
Margaret had a caring, loving spirit and a positive attitude that carried her through numerous medical challenges. She loved her family dearly & they brought great joy to her life.
A small Memorial Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday November 10th , 2018 at 3pm in the chapel of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Winter Haven.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shepherd George C. Forsythe Hospice House, 105 Arneson Ave, Auburndale, FL 33823 in the memory of Margaret.
Interment will be at Chapel Hills Memorial Gardens, Lansing, Michigan.
