Helen N. Curl, age 77 of Arlington, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2018 with her family at her side. She was born on December 17, 1940 in El Dorado, Arkansas, the daughter of James D. Newman and Gertrude Neel. Helen married Howard Curl on August 6, 1962 and they celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Helen led a beautiful life of giving and teaching others, never realizing the many lives she touched and improved. Helen and her family hosted many international foreign students to acclimate them to the American culture. She also held many positions within various churches, leader within the Girl Scouts, and community volunteer. Helen’s volunteering includes the Vietnamese Rescue with the Red Cross, Girl Scout Leader, Red Hat Society, Relay for Life, Reach to Recovery, and an advocate for breast cancer awareness. In her spare time, Helen enjoyed playing bridge, needlepoint, music, reading, and writing. In more recent years, Helen dedicated much time to genealogy and discovering her Scottish heritage, where she made many trips and became an active member of the Clan Urquhart.
Helen is survived by her husband, Howard; daughters Katy Curl Johnson and Patty Curl Moseley and husband Garrett; granddaughters Danielle Lea Johnson and Rachel Marie Johnson; brother Andrew Newman; and many dear friends around the world.
A private service to celebrate Helen’s life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
