Surrounded by her family and in the comfort of her beloved home, Hortensia G. Urrutia departed peacefully Sunday, October 28, 2018 to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Born in 1921 in Floresville, Texas, to Lazaro B. Gallego and Petra V. Gallego, she was the second of 10 children. She graduated from a vocational school in nursing in 1944 and went on to be a matriarchal homemaker after marrying the love her life, Seledonio T. Urrutia, in 1949. She started many small businesses and enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, making crafts, being politically active, party planning, taking care of her family, and having a good laugh over coffee with friends. She was a faithful lifelong member of the Church of God 7th Day, dedicating herself and her family to various ministries. She’ll be remembered as a classy fashionista, glamorous strong woman, fascinating hostess, dedicated mother to all, a sister in Christ, a role model to many, beloved aunt, and a grandmother who always had a smile. She is preceded in death by her parents and loving husband, sisters, Sarah Gallego, Christina Bustos, Aurora Bernal, Gloria Dominguez, brothers, Jose Gallego, and Lazaro V. Gallego. She is survived by her siblings, Romula Bergmann (Ernest), Jesse Gallego (Delia), and Petra Pena (Armando); children, Ruben G. Urrutia, Daniel G. Urrutia (Carol), and Christine L. Eslora (Jim); grandchildren, Ruben, Celina, Carlos, Iris, Marcos, Juliet, Maricela, Joel, and Kristianna; great-grandsons, Luke, John, and Jude. Her sense of humor, example of strength, and unwavering faith will be MISSED. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Sunset Northwest. A prayer service will follow from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. A brief farewell service will be held again at Sunset Northwest beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2018 and burial will follow at San Fernando Cemetery III. A reception will be held at 1:30pm Monday following burial at Magnolia Gardens, 2030 North Main, San Antonio, Texas 78212.
