He leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Roberta (Landi) Calemmo. His family of six children; Damian and wife, Kelli, Justin and wife Julie, Rachael and husband, Peter, Adrian and wife, Margaux, Adam and Gabriel. He greatly loved his cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, Mia, Ethan, Lucas, Sophia, Peter Jr. and Carter.
Steve was a native New Yorker, who served in the Vietnam War (1965-67). In 1969 he became a proud member of the New York Police Dept. serving 20 years. Upon retirement from NYPD, he became an entrepreneur and had his own business (Five Sons Chimney) which is still owned and operated by his son Justin. He was a community minded man, who spent many years devoted to the town of Yorktown Hgts., NY. He participated in the Veterans, Lions, Boy Scouts, Town Government, St. Patrick’s Church and volunteered wherever he was needed to be an example to his children and an asset to the community he lived in.
He spent many years vacationing on the Cape and loved it so much that he decided to move there with his wife in 1999. He opened “Howes’ Cottage Restaurant” in Yarmouthport and then he continued his career working at the Cape Museum of Art for several years.
Continuing his passion for law enforcement, he became a licensed Private Investigator for the State of Massachusetts, he was a constable for the Town of Dennis and a Private Defense Investigator for the State, as well. He volunteered at the Dennis Senior Center for a number of years.
He thoroughly enjoyed his avocation of fishing and hunting and the Cape became a treasured place in his heart. So much so, that he chose to remain on the Cape that he loved so much even now.
