John Michael attended Cooley High School and studied Electrical Engineering at Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan. John Michael Shaheen had over 50 years in construction and development, led a family-owned and operated business that was originated around 1910 in Michigan. In 1984 he and his brother Lawrence founded Regional Companies in Charlotte, an integrated construction and commercial/industrial development firm, which he worked until his retirement in 2015, and he was widely known for success in developing and managing real estate investments.
In addition to his entrepreneurial endeavors, John Michael was founder and past president of the Metrolina Phoenician Club, a Charlotte area social club that promote Lebanese heritage and supports various philanthropic activities. Since the early 80’s, the club has provided funds to orphanages and other children's charities in Lebanon. He also served on the Board of Sacred Heart College during the late 80’s thru early 90’s.
John Michael Shaheen is survived by his wife, Mary Sherry Shaheen; his son, John E. Shaheen and daughter-in-law, Amy Purser Shaheen; his daughter, Christine Shaheen Hamilton and son-in law, Charles (Ace) Hamilton; his grandchildren: Nicholas Shaheen, Lily Hamilton, John Patrick Shaheen, Matthew Shaheen, and Elizabeth Shaheen; his brother, Lawrence Shaheen Sr.; and his sisters, Joyce Davenport, Donna Depodesta, and Joan Ste Marie.
A Prayer Service will be held at 6 pm on Monday evening, November 5 at Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte, with visitation following until 8 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Tuesday the 6th at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Rd., Charlotte with Reverend Frank O’Rourke, Celebrant. Interment will be private for the family.
