The first child of to the late Earl Quinton Mollohan and the late Susan Ada Mollohan, Marian was born on January 30, 1927 in Charleston, West Virginia, where she grew up and ultimately graduated from high school.
After graduating from Marshall University, Marian worked for the State of West Virginia until marrying her husband whom she preceded in death, William J. Cochran, a founding teacher at North Mecklenburg High School. After their marriage in 1952, they lived in Huntersville, NC, for nearly forty years. She started teaching in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System at West Mecklenburg High School and later moved to North Mecklenburg High School where she and her husband both taught. Her primary subject was biology.
Marian had 2 sons which she helped coach to Eagle Scouts. She was a great cook and even better mother. Marian retired from teaching in 1989 and concentrated on her love of reading, flowers and travel, to include several travel adventures with family and friends. The seniors’ group at Calvary Church became a respite of friendship and fellowship for many years after her husband died.
Marian is survived by her two sons: William (wife Laura) of Monument, CO and Joey (wife Kim) of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren: Brad, Elizabeth, Marian Joleigh, Liam and Lydia; and two sisters: Carolyn McDonie and Katie Ross.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 2pm at Calvary Church, 5801 Pineville-Matthews Rd, Charlotte, NC, where she was a longtime member since the early 1970’s. A service will follow there at 3pm. The burial will follow in Charleston, WV on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in Spring Hill Cemetery.
