Lillian Klimo, age 99, of Rockford, IL passed peacefully into heaven on November 1st just shy of her 100th birthday celebration. She is native to Chicago. In her early 20’s, she played third base for the Parichy Bloomer Girls, Major Girls Softball League. She was very athletic and also enjoyed swimming, bowling, roller skating, and tap dancing. While working for Campbell Soup Company in Chicago, she met the love of her life Charles. They fell in love with each other and square danced the nights away. When Charles left to answer the call of duty during WWII, Lillian waited faithfully for him. They married in May following his return. Together, they raised three children in Chicago. She volunteered as a Den mother for Cub Scouts and Brownies. She worked in various positions for a university for 16 years.
When they were blessed with grandchildren, the couple moved to Rockford to help with their upbringing. Charles slowly lost his sight and Lillian faithfully served him through it all. When he received services from the Center for Sight and Hearing Impaired, Lillian stepped in to volunteer at the center. She also volunteered her services at VASA Order of America. Both Charles and Lillian were loyal members of Saint Edwards Parish in Rockford. The couple were married for 53 years at the time of his passing.
Lillian enjoyed being an active participant in the lives of her family. She made herself available to celebrate the life events of her three children, six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her feisty personality and her love of her family. She was compassionate, caring, and funny. She made friends easily and was always ready to lend a hand.
Her services will be held on Thursday, November 8th at 10 am at Sunset Funeral Home 8800 N. Alpine Rd. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Center for Sight and Hearing Impaired or the Salvation Army.
