JACKSONVILLE -- On Thursday night, Nov. 1, God called home Rose Patti Frangie, age 88, while she was in care at Memorial Hospital. From her birth Sept. 7, 1930 in Johnstown, Pa. throughout her long, happy life until her final days, Rose was known as a bright, loving soul who was always compassionate to others, a true friend to all, who had a smile on her face, an ear and time to listen and a kind word to brighten your day.
She graduated from Johnstown High in 1948, attended nursing school and became a nurse in the Johnstown area in the early 50s. She met her husband to be, Frank Maged Frangie, married him and then moved with him to Jacksonville, Florida as her husband would begin a commercial construction business there. After her husband died in 1973, Rose, at age 42, re-entered the workplace, working for Terminix Pest Control before beginning a long career with the City of Jacksonville before retiring from the city's Tax Appraisers office at age 65.
Rose was a devout Catholic, a true Christian woman, and an active member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. She became known as the best cook of Italian food around and was most proud when friends -- and there were so many -- would come to her home for spaghetti and meatballs or that fantastic lasagna.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Matteo and Maria Patti, two brothers, John and Joe Patti, two sisters, Constance Torchia and Lena Killian, and her husband. She is survived by her one son, Frank Matthew Frangie, his wife, Susanne, to whom she was most close, and her one granddaughter, Amber Frangie, who she referred to as her "little darling" right up until her final moments.
The family would like to send special thanks to so many friends who reached out during and near the end of her life and special thanks to the wonderful staff at Heritage Crossing Assisted Living Center, where Rose spent the final four years of her life.
There will be a funeral mass/service Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 6320 Bennett Road, Jacksonville. A short viewing will precede the funeral at 10 a.m. for those who want to attend. There will be a reception at the church social hall immediately after the service. A gravesite ceremony at Greenlawn Cemetery on Beach Blvd. will be held after the reception for any who want to attend.
