Mildred grew up on a farm in southern Georgia and had many fond memories of her childhood. She met her late husband, Frederick Scribner, while she was attending nursing school and he was serving in the Army during WWII at Camp Wheeler in Macon, GA. They married on January 12, 1945 and they made their home in Albion. He preceded her in death on June 1, 2005 after 65 years of marriage. Mildred is also preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Henry, Irene, Johnie, Milton and Calvin.
Mildred was a strong-willed, hard-working woman who worked as a Registered Nurse in obstetrics at Sheldon Memorial Hospital in Albion, spent some time working at Health Services for Albion College and also worked for Marshall Manor in Marshall until her retirement. She was a member of the Entre Nous Club in Albion and also a member of the Albion Business and Professional Women Club receiving her 72 year membership award recently. She also was a wonderful cook, cooking up wonderful southern dishes and she enjoyed gardening as well.
Mildred leaves to cherish her memory 2 sons, Karl (Vicki) Scribner of Vermontville, MI and Kenneth Scribner of St. Clair Shores, MI; grandchildren: Bryan, Kenneth, Aaron, Kelly, Lyndsay; great-grandchildren: Erica, Violet, Gideon, Savannah, Addison.
According to Mildred’s wishes, cremation has taken place and her family will celebrate her life with a private service at a later date. The family is being served by J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, Albion. Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Albion Library. The family would like to extend special gratitude to Anna Merritt and the Staff at Anna’s House of Flowers for their care, concern, love and friendship over the past several years.
