Catherine was born November 9, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois to William and Elizabeth Kamp. She graduated in 1941 from Lindblom High School in Chicago, and married her high school sweetheart, Thomas J. Waters on December 28, 1942 in Waycross, Georgia. During World War II, Tom was stationed in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where they lived for 2 years before she returned to Chicago to have her first son. After Tom’s discharge from the Army Air Corps, he returned to Chicago and they lived there for a couple of years before moving on to Green Bay Milwaukee, and finally in 1953, settled in Kansas City, Kansas, where they co-owned and operated the Big Chief Indian Head A&W Root Beer Stand. They also owned Dixie Donuts and Griff’s Burger Bar in Kansas City, Kansas. She retired from Montgomery Wards (Indian Springs Shopping Center) in 1987. After losing her husband in 2003, she soon moved to Overland Park, Kansas, to live wither daughter because of dementia in 2006.
She attended Wellborn Community Church and later returned to her Catholic roots at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Catherine loved to sing and dance.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas J. Waters; her brother Robert Kamp; her sister, Barbara Hilan; and her son, Steven J. Waters.
Catherine is survived by her son; Greg Waters (Barbie); her daughter, Pam Likes (Ron); her grandchildren, Carter Likes (Heather), Kameron Waters-Green, Gavin Waters (Rachel); and six great grandchildren, Jackson, MaKensie, Grant Likes; and Kailani, Richard and Randle Green.
Private funeral services were held November 13, 2018, at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home and interment was in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
