Ron Evans passed away on November 6, 2018 in his wife's arms. Ron was born in Missouri but grew up in southeastern Minnesota. When he was 17 he left Minnesota to hitch hike cross country supporting himself picking fruit and cotton. Once the season was over, he joined the Navy where he was the communications officer on the first nuclear submarine the USS Skate. Ron settled in Brooklyn NY in 1966 to attend college earning a BA in history from Brooklyn College. He met Gerry and they lived happily ever after for 48 wonderful years. He continued to live there for the rest of his life.
Ron always loved the wilderness and to travel. He was lucky enough to be able to retire at the age of 54 as a Vice President at Bankers Trust Company. With that move, he was able to spend the next 22 years of his life traveling to what he called his “bucket list”. Ron traveled all of Europe, Asia, Africa and visited all contiguous 48 states and many of the national parks.
Ron had many interests including nature, the woods, travel, music and returning to his cabin in Minnesota (that he built with his cousins in 1996 after he retired).
He loved his family, his wife, Gerry, his son Rick, daughter-in-law Karen, his grandchildren Zack, Ryan and Alyssa.
In lieu of flowers Ron would have been pleased if you could make a donation to something he loved below.
