Buster was born in Mount Sterling. He was the son to the late Dillard and Hattie Leatherwood. He was a Seabee in the United States Navy. He returned to North Carolina after his service and married Lib with whom he just celebrated 71 years of marriage. Buster was a salesman all his life beginning at Auto Parts, Electric Company, Holmes Wreckers and lastly with Statesville ABC. He never knew a stranger and enjoyed talking with everyone about their lives. He was particularly happy to have been able to provide many hours of fun at the lake lot on Lake Norman. He spent many hours camping and fishing there. That was Buster's home away from home.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by youngest daughter, Susan Leatherwood; and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Lib" Leatherwood; daughter, Kathy Ipock; son, Larry (JoAnn) Leatherwood; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members.
The family will gather and receive friends Tuesday, Nov. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. There will be a celebration of Buster's life Saturday, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m., in the Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
We will all miss his quiet strength and gentleness.
Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Leatherwood family.
