Theodore J. Holland – Lifelong resident of Scituate passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 22, 2018. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Helen Marie (McHugh) Holland, with whom he shared more than 50 years of marriage.
Born in Scituate, Theodore was a proud “townie” and was very active in the community, whether it be working at the Scituate Food Pantry checking expiration dates well into his nineties, serving as an usher at St. Mary of the Nativity Church or playing the bells at Lawson Tower, often with his granddaughter assisting him in his later years.
Theodore was a proud veteran of the US Army and was stationed at the Walter Reed Hospital. A man of many interests, he was a collector of coins and a stock car mechanic at Ray’s Garage for a number of years and it’s rumored that his wife drove them. He was a secretary for St. Vincent de Paul and coached Little League baseball alongside his brother Bill. He was very active in the Marshfield Rod and Gun Club and taught safety instruction courses.
Theodore was the 2nd person ever hired by Arthur Anderson to work for Scituate’s Anderson Fuel Company. He was employed in everlasting capacities and retired from the company as a sales manager.
He was a very gifted self-taught musician and could play nearly any instrument he came upon. A regular at the town’s senior luncheons, there was never a time where one of the ladies didn’t save him a seat and he often could be persuaded to take requests on the piano for the group.
He led such a full productive life and was a friend to everyone who had the honor of knowing him.
He was the devoted father of Michael J. Holland and his late wife Martha of Scituate, Patricia E. Holland and her husband Robert O’Meara of Scituate and Theodore L. Holland and his wife Bonnie of Duxbury. Cherished Grampa of Jon Holland and his fiancée Katie Teufel, Caroline Holland, Molly O’Meara, Brianne O’Meara, Toni Holland and her wife Allyson and Teddy Holland. He was also survived by 7 great grandchildren. Loving brother of the late Bob, Bill, Lois, Connie and Betty. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
