Born in Missouri on October 27, 1930, to Robert and Bertha Fergerson, Edra was the youngest of four children. In 1939 the family left Missouri and moved to Santa Paula, California. There Edra spent her growing up years at Olivelands School, and graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1947. In May of 1948 Edra married Edward Melnar, and together they began their long married life working hard and raising a family of three children, Michelle, Michael, Edra Lea.
For many years Edra worked in Santa Paula as a farm accountant for Samuel Edwards Associates. When that family company sold she moved across the street and opened her own Tax and Bookkeeping business. It was there that she became known as a most trust tax preparer and keeper of financial records for her many local clients.
After retirement and the death of her husband in 1994, Edra became reacquainted with an old high school friend Joe Hayes. Together they traveled far and wide, enjoying their later years. An avid bridge player, Edra was always ready to deal a hand.
Edra was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; parents, Robert, and Bertha Fergerson; sister, LaNelle Rentfrow; brothers, Jim, and Buck Fergerson; and her special friend and companion, Joe.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Hart (Ron Woods); son, Michael Melnar (Loretta); daughter, Edra Lea Marsh (Andy); grandchildren, Marc Hart, Macie Whitley, Mallory Engstrom, Matthew Melnar, Karie Marsh, and Kelly Marsh; great grandchildren, Michael, Bryan and Lauren Whitley, Joey Hart, Harper Engstrom, and a new baby Engstrom who’s due in May 2019; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Irma Rios, housekeeper and friend. You are indeed special.
For those friends and family who would like to pay their respect for Edra, a visitation will be held on Friday, November 30, 2018, 9:00 to 10:30 A.M., at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, CA. Immediately followed by a funeral service being held in her honor at 11:00 A.M.; and burial at the Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura, CA.
