Alex Golbuff, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather (hair of silver- heart of gold) passed away at his home in Leisure Village, Camarillo, CA, on Friday, November 23, 2018, after 94 years of a very active and productive life.
Alex was born May 2, 1924 to parents who immigrated from Russia in 1916. He was the youngest of four brothers and three sisters.
He was raised on a farm in Mason City, Iowa during the great depression developing a strong work ethic. Elementary School was in a one room country school. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1943. Alex played both basketball and football on teams that won State Championships, and held the winning title for a number of years.
Alex proudly joined the US Army in 1944, serving for two years as a Drill Sergeant. He was Honorably Discharged in 1946. Alex moved to Pasadena, CA where he attended Pasadena College for two years. He attended USC for 4 years graduating in 1956 with a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree.
He owned and operated five pharmacies in Ventura County while performing atop Several Community, Political and Professional Affiliations. In 1973, Alex was appointed by Governor Reagan to the State Board of Pharmacy in Sacramento for six years where he was very active.
He retired in 1984 and spent the next 34 years vacationing with grandchildren and family and traveling worldwide. Alex and Susan were members of Saticoy Country Club for 42 years. They made lasting friendships and enjoyed many rounds of golf both at home and on many other courses throughout Europe and the States. He remained a strong, loyal fan of USC football and attended both home and away games for over 30 years.
As he soared through our lives while effortlessly teaching us the proper technique of being the best one could possibly be, he was genuine in every role: husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend, he was truly an exceptional human being. Alex shared his unconditional love, wisdom, and humor with all his family.
Alex is survived by his beloved wife, Susan; daughters, Alexis, Vickie (Brian), Kathy (Kenny), and Debbie; grandchildren, Angela, Kerri (Dan), Ben, Michelle (Matt), Melissa, George, and Chloe; great grandchildren, Monique, Jordan and Hannah; great-great grandchildren, LeAnna and Bailey.
