Born on December 1, 1956, in Jefferson City, MO, Ed was son of the late Ronald Gene Zehr and Margaret(Wood) Zehr. Educated in Fairbury, IL schools, he later attended ISU earning both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He coached t-ball and softball and also was a referee for junior football. He was an instructor at Northern Marianas College, Saipan, serving as chair of the Social Sciences Dept. He later moved to Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands working for an Army defense contractor at the Reagan Missile Defense Test Site. Ed was an avid sailor and very active in the sailing community. He was a member of the Hawaii Yacht Club, Marianas Yacht Club, and the Kwajalein Yacht Club where he was Commodore for 4 terms. Ed also enjoyed playing guitar and jamming with friends on the patio and at his boatshed. He loved to travel.
Ed is survived by his wife, Susan(Boehle) from Washington, IL; daughter, Christina Zehr of San Francisco, CA; brother, David Zehr (Kristi) of Aurora, CO; sisters, Diane Zehr of Verona, MO, and Linda Meyer of Grand Prairie, TX; brother-cousin, Samuel Furrer (Pam) of St. Joseph, MO; sister-cousin, Julie Cotter (Jack) of Lexington, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends.
In lieu of a traditional viewing, a celebration of life will be held at Cropsey Sportsman’s Club on December 1, 2018 from 3-7pm. Please feel free to join our family in the Celebration of Life to share loving memories and stories of Ed.
