He was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 1, 1932 to the late Phillip and Esther (Melnick) Tuchman. After graduating Thomas Jefferson High School, he went on to trade school, mastering tool and die making, a field he would work in until his later work supervising manufacturing operations.
On February 26, 1955 he married his beloved wife Sondra (Tabickman) in Brooklyn, NY. They were husband and wife for 63 glorious years until the time of his passing.
Alfred worked at various companies; most notably Yardney Inc., where he worked on batteries for the space program, and retired from Medtronic. In retirement he enjoyed reading and watching TV, as well as playing cards and bocce with friends. He served on the Board of Directors at the Norwich Hebrew Benevolent Cemetery Association.
Alfred is survived by his wife Sondra and his sons, Adam M. Tuchman and Richard J. Tuchman and wife Cynthia. He was predeceased by his son, David C. Tuchman and his sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Leonard Ditchek. His brother, Herman Tuchman, in Charleston SC, who is survived by his wife, Adrienne, passed away just hours later on the same day as Alfred. Alfred is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Irvin and Dotty Tabickman, and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday November 28th at 1pm at the Montville Funeral Home of Church & Allen, 53 Norwich-New London Tnpk., Uncasville, CT. Procession will follow to Hebrew Benevolent Cemetery #3, Middle Rd., Preston, CT. There are no calling hours.
