It is with great sadness that the family of Nancy (Rosenthal) Pierce announces her passing on Saturday November 24th after a brief illness. She was 84 years old.
Nancy was born in Los Angeles, California on May 8th, 1934 to James and Lillian Pierceall. After graduating from Gardena High School and St. Vincent’s College of Nursing in Los Angeles, she worked as a Registered Nurse until marrying Alvin Rosenthal in 1956 with whom she raised four daughters. She eventually earned her bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and served as the Director of the Point Vicente Interpretive Center in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA for 10 years. After moving to Virginia, she became a docent at the Frank Lloyd Wright Pope-Leighy house, as well as the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington D.C. Nancy was an avid traveler, reader and history buff and actively served many charitable causes, including Altar Guilds and church choirs in Compton and Rancho Palos Verdes. She served as a Girl Scout volunteer for many years and later participated with Sweet Adelines International. In her retirement years she enjoyed creating and selling unique silk flower arrangements at local craft fairs in Northern Virginia.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, James and Lillian Pierceall and her sister, Mary Patricia Jean. She is survived by her sister Judith Corea of Palmer, Texas, her four daughters Virginia (Luis) Gonzalez of San Pedro, Eileen (Peter) Kurucz of Springfield, VA, Lynne Esther (Russell Tomas) of Torrance, Allison (Gregory) Webster of Yucaipa, her 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 1 at Halverson, Stone & Myers Mortuary in Torrance, CA at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please send charitable donations to the MPN Research Foundation at www.mpnresearchfoundation.org.
