George Edwin Walworth was born March 23, 1923 of Tom Merritt Walworth and Gladys Dibble Walworth in Hillsdale, MI. He served in the 8th Air Force Bomber wing of the Army Air Force in World War II, stationed in Bury-St Edmunds, Suffolk, England. Enabled by the GI Bill, Ted (as he was known) graduated from Hillsdale College and McCormick Seminary. He was ordained by the United Presbyterian Church in the United States of America in 1952 and was called to the First Presbyterian Church of Tecumseh, MI. Soon he wed Donna Marie Wrigley (pre-deceased) and began a family with children Geoffrey Edwin (now of Monroe, CT), Chris Anne (now Groenevelt of Traverse City, MI), and Cindy Jo (now Reed of Traverse City, Michigan). Later, he served churches in: Eaton Rapids, Michigan while doing graduate work at Michigan State University; Madison, WI; Defiance, OH; Detroit, MI; and Traverse City, MI.
He is survived by his children, his grandchildren Erin Walworth Reilly, Ross Groenevelt, Ted Groenevelt, Tessa Reed Keyton, Abigail Walworth, Will Reed, and his great-grandchildren James Reilly, Patrick Reilly, and Kinsley Keyton. Private services will be held for the immediate family. Memorial gifts in his name may be made to Habitat for Humanity, Grand Traverse Region.
