David Alfred “Potts” Montoya, 74, went to be with the Lord on November 24, 2018. Born to parents Mary and Isadore Montoya in Rocky Ford, CO. David is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Delores Urenda; brother, Alfonso Montoya; sister-in-law, Josephine Montoya; brother-in-law, Patrick Romero; and grandson, Benjamin Henry Quick. David is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Teresa; daughters, Janelle (Stephen) Quick and Melissa (Hank) Brown; grandchildren, Weston, Cooper, and Mitchell; siblings, Arthur (Rita) Montoya and Charlotte Romero; as well as many other countless loved ones. David attended St. Leander’s, Pueblo Catholic High School and graduated in 1962. He played baseball, football, and basketball, making the All City Football Team that year. While working to fund his college education at The Alamo, Gino’s and The Stadium he graduated from Southern Colorado State College in 1970 with a BA in Social Services. In 1971 he was the Regional Program Director for Colorado Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association. From 1973-1978 he worked for the H.E.P. at University of Southern Colorado and University of Nebraska Lincoln. 1978-2008, was spent being a teller and General Manager at Pueblo Greyhound Park. David especially loved sports; refereeing basketball for 22 years, the Colorado Rockies, Denver Broncos, and he was an avid golfer his whole life. He will be dearly missed by all. Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2018 followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of the Meadows Catholic Church.
