Bob graduated from Myers Park High School, Charlotte, NC in 1961. He attended the University of North Carolina, earning his Bachelor of Arts in 1965. At Harvard University, Bob received both a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry in 1971 and a Master in Business Administration in 1974. After working for Metric Construction, Co. in Charlotte and Honeywell, Inc. in Boston, Bob joined the Chicago Board Options Exchange where he enjoyed a very successful career as an options trader. Bob also served as President of Construction Brick and Tile, Inc. in Charlotte. In 2015, he retired to Carolina Lakes Sun City, SC.
A devoted son, loyal brother, and wonderful uncle, his family is ever grateful for his generosity and the care he showed those he loved. An eternal chemist, he lived his life with accuracy and precision from his passion for genealogy to his approach in the kitchen and fishing.
He is survived by his older brother, John Springs Stafford, Jr. (Susan) of Lake Forest, IL; younger sister, Susan Stafford (Douglas) Boehm of Oakton, VA; nephews, John Springs Stafford III of Chicago Il, James Stafford II of Brooklyn, NY, Douglas Boehm, Jr. of Arlington, VA; nieces, Molly Boehm of Vienna, VA, Betsy Boehm (John) Bland of Annandale, VA, Kimberly Stafford of Lake Forest, IL; grandnieces, Penelope Bland and Alice Bland; and grandnephews, Wyatt Stafford and Hendrix Stafford .
A service by the graveside will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 16, 2018, at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC.
