She was one of six children born to Adolph and Hulda Oncken, marrying Oscar Kuck, and then later in life, Wayne Preston.
Bertha was a longtime member of the Lutheran church, attending as a member at Mt. Olive, St. Marks, and Gethsemane Lutheran churches throughout her lifetime. Bertha instilled in her children the importance of church and faith in their lives, a faith that lives on in her family today.
Bertha's life is a testament to committing oneself to family and to others. She worked hard throughout her life to provide for her children, working as a nurse, selling Avon, and other careers. She was always willing to help care for her grandchildren whenever necessary, and particularly enjoyed seeing and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, Hulda Agusta Dahse and Adolph Charles E. Oncken, first husband Oscar Kuck, second husband Wayne Preston, sisters Adeline Cawlfield and Minnie Pietsch, brothers Willie, Clem and Robert Oncken. She is survived by children Marilyn Paulsen and Charles Kuck, daughter-in-law Beverly, grandchildren Lauren Lerner and spouse Gabe, Chad Kuck and spouse Jennifer, Kathryn Doll and spouse Stephen, Mike Paulsen, great-grandchildren Charlotte Kuck, Jeremy Doll and Lucas Doll, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
