Elizabeth Stecklein Farah
(Age 89)
On November 30, 2018, Betty passed away surrounded by her family. She was a loving, charming, witty, and funny lady to all who knew her. Betty’s family was her most prized achievement.
She was the strong and devoted matriarch of six children, their spouses, fifteen grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. Married for 49 years, she was the light of her late husband Johnny’s life, fondly nicknamed, his “Bride”.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children; John Farah Jr. (Debbie DiMaggio), Michael Farah, (Maggie) Kathleen Farah Cahill (Sean), Janine Farah Groff (Mark), Tina Farah Logsdon (Keith), Gregory Farah (Jill), her brother; Albert E Stecklein Jr. (Kathleen), her grandchildren; Michael Cahill (Kaley), Andrew Farah (Dori), David Farah, Kevin Groff, Meghan Cahill, Meredith Cahill, Brian Groff, Philip Groff (one of our angels), Kirsten Groff, Mia Logsdon, John G. Farah, Jeffrey Groff, Clay Logsdon, Mitchell Farah, Conor Farah, Ellis Farah, Great grandchild; Tenley J. Cahill, and many Stecklein and Farah nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
She cherished her extended family; her cousins, nieces, nephews and the countless friends she made in life.
A native Washingtonian, Betty attended the Academy of the Holy Names High School. She went onto the Washington School for Secretaries. After graduation, Betty worked at the National Retail Lumber Association where she met the love of her life. Betty moved on to work for the Government in the Alcohol Tax Division of the Internal Revenue Association. Subsequently, she held the role of Executive Secretary for the Office of Price Stabilization in the Office of Information, where Betty worked with journalists and reporters for magazines, newspapers, TV and Radio. She especially loved this job, but left to raise her family in Bethesda, Maryland. For many years, Betty also resided in Naples, Florida, summered in Meredith, New Hampshire with her late husband Johnny. She finally relocated to Lansdowne, Virginia with a view of the Potomac she treasured and loved sharing with others.
She had a full life of worldly travels, activities, family and friends. Betty was an avid Washington Redskins fan, who rarely missed a game. Those who played Mahjong with her often sent her home with a few extra coins in her pocket!
Betty was gifted with a quick wit and the ability to tell vivid stories that engaged her listeners, many culminating in laughter by all in the room. She will be greatly missed.
