Joyce was a woman of many talents. She was a musician, teacher, and a leader for God’s work. Her devotion to helping others led her to give seven years of her life as a missionary in Colombia, South America. Her forte was to bring the word of the Lord and to make a better life for those living in the rain forest of south Colombia. She succeeded in making many life- long friends whom to this day she loves and holds in high regard.
Following the South American experience, Joyce married John Peterson. She moved to Hamilton, IL where they worked together in a printing firm and office supply in Keokuk, IA. Later, they formed their own corporation and started a commercial real estate business in Springfield, IL.
In 2002, they sold their business and retired to Arizona. Joyce loved working together and making a life together. Joyce also taught Music and English as a Second Language at a private catholic school in Nauvoo, IL. Her talent for music was extensive. She was blessed with an exceptionally far and above beautiful soprano voice where she was held in high regard for her talent in teaching and musical directing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Preston and Frances James of Lubbock, Texas, and her brothers, Shelby, Gene and Paul James. She is survived by her husband John and one sister, Wanda Rankin of Lubbock, Tx.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 6-8 pm at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel with Interment following in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.
