Daisy was born in Jump River, WI to Cecil and Christina Heath (Sorensen). She was the third of six siblings. In 1944 her family moved to Yelm. She graduated from Yelm High in 1954 after marrying classmate, Leonard “Amos” Lawton on September 26, 1953. Soon after marrying, Amos and Daisy purchased the Lawton Family farm (outside of Yelm) where they raised their five children: Geri Lynn (Dee-Dee), Terry, Tim, Christine and Leonard Amos Jr. (Lenny).
Daisy was reborn as a child of God when baptized at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Yelm WA on December 22, 1957 and remained an active member until moving to Adna and joining Peace Lutheran Church, Chehalis in 2002.
Daisy was a tireless homemaker and dedicated mother. She helped Amos with the family dairy farm, while working as her church’s secretary for nearly 15 years. Later, she worked as Treasurer for the City of Yelm for nearly 10 years. Upon retirement, she and Amos moved onto their sons and daughter-in-laws’ dairy farm in Adna.
Daisy’s hallmarks were her strong, quiet faith, her discreet service to others, and her subtle sense of humor. When people asked how she endured the death of two children and/or forty years of rheumatoid arthritis, she would reply, “By the strength of the Lord.” Daisy enjoyed gardening and cooking and made many meals for her son’s wrestling and baseball teams, church members in need, and her grand-daughters - following the births of most of their children.
She is preceded in death by husband of 61 years, Amos, her parents, son Lenny, daughter Geri Lynn, a grandson, daughter in law, two brothers and two sisters. She is survived – and will be greatly missed – by son Terry and daughter-in-law Cathy of Adna, son Timothy and daughter-in-law Cheryl of Rainier, daughter Christine and son-in-law Bill of Chehalis, eight grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, a brother Eddie and his wife Sharon of Olympia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
