Our sweet mom, Joyce H. Gauthier, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 3, 2018, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 27, 1934, to the late Francis Xavier Hoffmann and the late Irene LaFargue Hoffmann. Joyce was the beloved wife of the late Donald James Gauthier for 57 years. She was the loving mother of Jeannine Albrecht (Mark), Julie Melson (Charlie), Joni Nunez (Bob), Jayne Ryan (Rickey) and Jill Neumann (Elliott). She was the loving sister of Theresa Esteves (Charlie) and the late RoseMary Frechou (Sidney). “Meme” was the loving grandmother of Nicole (Jason), Matt (Michelle), Mindi (Justin), Nicholas, Angela, Rob (Deana), Rae (Chris), Megan, Desi (Brittany), Lindsey, Rickey (Alison), Tabitha, Travis, Elliott, and the late Crystal Melson Comeaux. Meme loved her 19 great-grandchildren, including the late Matthew Comeaux, and her 1 great-great-grandson. Joyce is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who loved her.
Joyce attended Annunciation High School where she was the recipient of the American Legion award, and graduated as Salutatorian. She and Don lived in Arabi for over 40 years, and were faithful parishioners of St. Robert Bellarmine Church. After Hurricane Katrina, Joyce and Don relocated to Carriere, Mississippi, and were parishioners of St. Charles Borromeo Church. Joyce and Don loved their family and friends so much, and were always the host of many celebrations. She loved the friends she made in the St. Bernard Homemakers Club, Stitch in Time, and the Newcomer’s Club.
A special thanks goes out to the warm and loving care and companionship provided by her special sitters. The family would like to extend a debt of gratitude to the wonderful caretakers at Kare-in-Home Home Health and Hospice as well as to the medical staff at Ochsner Clinic, where she received many years of wonderful care.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue Street, in Chalmette, on Friday, December 7, 2018 from 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM. A Funeral Mass will be held in her honor at 10:00 AM. She will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
