Funeral Services are under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner, Texas and will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 10:00 am at Dr. Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Shiner, Texas with Reverend Barbara Beale officiating. Interment will follow at Shiner Catholic Cemetery in Shiner, Texas. Visitation will at Buffington Funeral Home and will begin at 1:00 pm on Friday, December7, 2018 with the family greeting friends and guest from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A Prayer Service will begin at 7:00 pm.
Allen was born on April 26, 1936 in Yorktown, Texas. He was the son of Herbert and Clarice (Cavness) Esse. He attended public schools in Corpus Christi, Texas, and received a football scholarship to Southern Methodist University in 1954 upon graduation from WB Ray High School. He earned two degrees from SMU; a BBA in Business, and a BS in Education. He married Mary Ann Woolfolk on November 25, 1959. He served in the US Marine Corp. from 1958 until 1960 and was stationed in Washington, D.C. He earned the rank of Lance Corporal. He was a teacher-coach in Corpus Christi, Victoria, Yoakum, and Shiner. He married Verline (Hagens) Spann on November 19, 2015 at Dr. Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Shiner, Texas, Allen was an avid supporter of the Shiner ISD Athletic programs and enjoyed many softball, football, and basketball games with his wife, Verline. Allen was a member of the First Baptist Church in Shiner, Texas, Shiner Young Farmers, and the Lavaca County Farm Bureau. His favorite hobby was bass fishing and tending his pecan trees.
Allen is survived by his wife, Verline Esse of Shiner, Texas, one son; Howard Esse and his wife, Sherry of Shiner, Texas, one grandson; Austin Esse of San Marcos, Texas, two brothers; Norman Esse and his wife, Vicki of San Antonio, Texas, Brent Esse and his wife, Margie of Houston, Texas, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; Herbert and Clarice Esse, and his loving wife of 43 years; Mary Ann Esse,
Pallbearers for Mr. Esse will be; Greg Parrot, Gene Vincik, Mike Mitchon, Jason Pilat, Kenneth Stock, and Tommy Pietsch. Honorary Pallbearers will be; Shiner Young Farmers.
