Ruth (Schledewitz) Meisner memorial services will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Gering Zion Church in Gering, Nebraska. Private inurnment will be at West Lawn Cemetery. Ruth passed away from this earthly scene on December 12, 2018 at The Residency Care Center.
Ruth was born on a Mitchell Valley farm on November 29, 1930. She was the eldest child of Andrew and Martha (Lackman) Schledewitz. Except for four years, where they lived in Minnesota, she lived in Western Nebraska. She graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1948. She then graduated from West Nebraska General Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. She worked in various departments during her nursing career, however, her passion was OB nursing. She enrolled in nursing to get away from life on the farm.
She met and married Harold Meisner, who was involved in farming in 1954. They had three children, Barbara, Jerald and Gordon. She continued her nursing career and helped her husband with the family farm. Ruth and Harold took part in and enjoyed their children’s activities which included church, school and 4-H.
Ruth belonged to service organizations in the community. She was a founding board member of the Nebraska Dry Bean Growers Association and an active member of WIFE (Women Involved In Farm Economics).
With the arrival of two granddaughters (Jamie and Stacie), she quickly became an avid volleyball fan. She enjoyed every minute of their volleyball activities from Cedar Canyon, Gering High, WNCC and University of Alaska.
Ruth retired and moved to Northfield Villa in 2002.
She is survived by her children: Barbara (Ron) Grant, Gordon Meisner, Jerald (Shelly) Meisner; grandchildren: Ahmad Hassan, Jamie Meisner (Allen Taylor), and Stacie (Jon) Gallagher; great grandchildren: R’Yanna, Marion, and Karreim Hassan, and Scott Gallagher; Siblings Palmer (Iona) Schledewitz and Kathleen (John) Voris; nieces Pamela Schledewitz, Amanda (Justin) La Vasseur and Jessica Voris and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Per Ruth’s request, memorials may be made to The Legacy of the Plains Museum, The Residency or donor’s choice. Condolences may be left at www.geringchapel.com. Gering Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
