Charles graduated from TC Central High School in 1951, and then went on to attend Michigan State University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree. Following that, he enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania where he received his Master’s Degree in electrical engineering. On May 15, 1954 in Traverse City, MI., he married the former Carolyn Stocking, and they made their home in Willingboro, New Jersey. He also enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving four years, and attended college on the GI Bill.
Charles was employed by RCA, which later became G.E. for 35 years. During that time, he assisted in doing government contracts. He was also very active playing the organ for the Corpus Christi Catholic Church for over 30 years. He retired when he was 61, and together with his wife, they moved back to Traverse City. Charles enjoyed spending time at the lake, swimming, and was also very active singing in the senior choir, playing the clarinet in the Second Time Arounders Marching Band, and simply spending his time with his family often entertaining them by playing the piano. He was a man who lived by routine, and was very proud to provide for his family.
Charles is survived by his wife Carolyn, children; Kristine (Joseph) Cantone, Thomas (Sheri Watkins), Brian (Cecile), Kathryn Feeney, Timothy (Tina), Bruce (Janet), Patrick (Alicia), and Karen (Tony) Pellegrino. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, his mother Dorothy Greenman, brother Earl “Chum” Greenman, and sister Winnie (Stewart) Strong.
Charles is preceded in death by his father; Earl, and brother; Jim Greenman.
In lieu of flowers and in honor of Charles, a donation may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
Visitation will be held at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City, MI on Thursday, December 20, 2018 from 4 to 8 pm, and also on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 2:00 pm. Deacon Rene Hoenscheid officiating.
Interment of his cremated remains will take place at a later date with Military Honors given.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Covell Funeral Home Traverse City.
