John Curtis Hoyt MD

John Curtis Hoyt, 88 of Traverse City, died Dec. 19, 2018. John was born on November 1st, 1930 in Fairmont, WV to Curtis Clyde Hoyt and Bernece Mary Wagner. He married Beth Wilmot on June 29th, 1957 in Clairdon, OH. John grew up in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. He received his medical degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.

John practiced as a family physician in Holt, MI for many years. He was on the staff at Ingham Medical Hospital and served on the executive board and was chief of family practice. While living in Holt John was an active participant and leader in the community. He served as an elected trustee on the Delhi Township board. He was a member of the Holt Presbyterian Church and served as a Sunday school teacher, a deacon and an elder. For 18 years John served as team physician for the Holt High School. In 1977 John moved his family to Traverse City. He took a position working for the Department of Social Security Disability Determination. He also continued practicing as a family physician and was on the staff at Munson Medical Center. John retired after 39 years of medical practice. He was a long time member of the Presbyterian Church of Traverse City. John had a great love of music and for many years enjoyed singing with the Cherry Capitol Chorus. John was an amazing man who embraced all that life had to offer. He was a highly respected “stand-up” guy who couldn't pass up an opportunity to help someone in need. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed many hobbies including travel and outdoor recreational activities.

John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beth Wilmot Hoyt; children, Jeffrey Hoyt, David Hoyt, Daniel Hoyt, Matthew Hoyt and Susanne McBride. Seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Jane Fetterman; and brother, Thomas J Hoyt.
