CENTERVILLE- Harold William “Mac” MacNeely, 92, died peacefully on Saturday, December 22, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Marguerite M. (O’Leary) MacNeely with whom he celebrated 67 years of marriage.
Born in Hartford, CT on November 23, 1926, he was the son of the late Joseph and Frances MacNeely. Harold was raised and educated in Manchester, CT. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II until he was discharged in 1945. Harold started his career at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, CT, enrolling in the company's first machinist apprenticeship program. His career culminated in a supervisory position 36 years later. He and Marguerite retired to Centerville, MA on Cape Cod where they owned and operated the Carver House Bed & Breakfast for 20 years.
Harold was a parishioner at Our Lady of Victory in Centerville. He was an avid bowler and participated in many organizations including the Osterville Men’s Club, the American Red Cross, as well as the Connecticut community service organization Jaycees.
In addition to his wife, Marguerite, Harold is survived and will be deeply missed by his six children, John J. MacNeely (late wife Dianne) of South Yarmouth, Carole M. Eschner (late husband Thomas) of Rocky Hill, CT, Paul MacNeely and his wife Rebecca of Boston, MA, Timothy MacNeely and his wife Rose of Suffield, CT, Thomas MacNeely and his wife Kim of Hendersonville, NC, Martin MacNeely and his wife Stephanie Kalis of Marstons Mills; 10 grandchildren, a great-granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews, and a sister, Doris Rivosa of Manchester, CT.
Harold was predeceased by his sisters Barbara Blanco, May Ellen Davis, and Arlene Saltzman.
For those who knew him well, dearly missed will be his enthusiasm for taking on any repair project, big or small.
A visitation will be held Friday, December 28th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church, Centerville. A Funeral Mass will follow directly at 12 p.m. inside the church. Burial will take place in Mary Dunn Cemetery, Barnstable. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harold’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society.
