Dorothy Bahr Homeyer passed away peacefully the morning of Sunday, December 23, 2018 and was reunited in Heaven for Christmas with her beloved husband Howard in the presence of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A native Houstonian, Dorothy was born at St. Joseph Hospital on September 16, 1930 to Carl Adam Bahr and Louise Heisner Bahr. She attended Trinity Lutheran School in Houston and graduated from John H. Reagan High School. She worked for a number of major Houston companies in administrative roles before she and Howard were united in holy matrimony on March 4, 1961. This union was blessed with three sons, Michael, Paul, and Jonathan.
Dorothy cherished time with family and friends, volunteering at church and for her boys’ activities, her tennis and bridge groups, and travel throughout the world with Howard in their retirement years. She was loved by many for her contagious smile, sense of humor and grace.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Howard, and her sisters Evelyn Garske, and Elisabeth Kozina.
She is survived by her brother Frederic Bahr and wife Marilyn of Topeka, KS; by her sons, Michael and wife Patricia, Paul and wife Shelley, and Jonathan and wife Amy, all of Houston. She is also survived by grandchildren, Lauren Simmons and husband Barry, Ryan Homeyer, Adam Homeyer, Grace Homeyer, Benjamin Homeyer, Hannah Homeyer, Samuel Homeyer, and great grandchildren, Reid and Grant Simmons; along with numerous nieces and nephews, her Tuesday bridge group, and innumerable lifelong friends.
The family is very thankful for the care that Mom received these past few months from her faithful caregivers including CeCe, Vernetta, Evelyn, Elaine and Marie, along with her nurse, Roldan.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 11am in the Chapel of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you remember Dorothy’s vibrant life with a donation to the charity of your choice.
