Alexander A. Laurie, of Bradenton, FL passed away December 23, 2018 at the age of 90; he was born June 25, 1928 in Morris Plains, NJ, graduated high school in 1946 and wed his high school sweetheart, Ruth Jean Taylor, in 1949. Alex’s father opened a Ford dealership, Laurie Ford, in Morris Plains in 1925, where Alex worked for years until he opened his own trailer business in 1965. From 1971 through retirement, he was a well-respected truck salesman, mainly selling to municipalities throughout Northern New Jersey. Alex and Ruth lived in Morris Plains, NJ then later Lake Hopatcong, NJ, where they happily raised their three children. After retirement, they were able to pursue their dream of traveling North America in their trailer for many years. He was President of the TravelMasters Trailer Club for several years and belonged to the Good Sam Trailer Club. When Ruth passed in 1994, Alex continued his passion for travel full-time. One of his proudest accomplishments was visiting the lower 48 states three times over, the last of which was with his traveling partner and fiancé, Sandra Wilson. Sandy passed away in 2014 after spending over 20 wonderful years with Alex. Her family was a large part of their lives while they lived in Bradenton. Sandy’s daughter Christine was a tremendous help to Alex over the last several years. Alex was a member of the Morris Plains Exempt Fireman’s Association since 1951; and had recently been honored for being a Master Mason for 55 years – Cincinnati Lodge #3NJ. He is survived by loving son John Laurie and wife Shelly, their children Tara Casey, John Laurie, and Jeni Laurie Dunbar; daughter Kathryn Flatt and husband Gary, their children Sean Stanziale, Samantha McGraw, and Hunter Flatt; son-in-law Peter Pollock; granddaughter Melanie Lisciandro; and Alex’s eleven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Alex & Olive Laurie, his sisters Ann Laurie and Olive Skinner, his wife Ruth Laurie, his daughter Christine Pollock, and his fiancé Sandra Wilson.
Visitation and Funeral will take place at Goble Funeral Home 22 Main St. Sparta NJ starting at 9:00 AM, Saturday, December 29, 2018.
