JoAnne Galione passed away on December 28, 2018 at home. She leaves behind her daughters Lisa Moment (Matthew) and Kathy Galione and her cherished grandsons Matthew John and Aidan Jack Moment. She also leaves behind her former husband and lifelong friend, George Galione.
A warm, exuberant, and sometimes sassy force of nature, JoAnne’s life was a wild, joyful ride. With twinkling eyes and witty candor, she would recount the carefree days of being a single working girl at Consolidated Stamp, tooling around in her Nash Metropolitan and hitting the beach on the weekends with friends. From her stories, JoAnne packed more fun into those years than most people have in a lifetime.
JoAnne married George Galione in 1964. The couple had two daughters, Lisa and Kathy, upon whom both parents doted. Though the marriage ended, JoAnne and George remained committed to always putting their children first, with both parents continuing to attend every family event and holiday together. This commitment was inspiring to both daughters, even more so as they reached adulthood.
Family was paramount to JoAnne; she loved outings, brunches, and holiday dinners. Distance was never an obstacle in earlier years, JoAnne thought nothing of loading everyone into the car and driving to New England to visit family. She loved the peace of Maine, the beauty of Nantucket, the fun and family in Milford, New Hampshire. JoAnne will be sorely missed by her New England/Florida family.
JoAnne extended her family through her enduring and beloved friendships. She played many games of Mexican Train, travelled extensively and shared many of life’s milestones with them-most of them friends since her teenage years.
An avid viewer of an array of cooking shows, she had a variety of her own specialties, including spicy chicken wings and stuffed artichokes. She had a deep appreciation for the culinary skills of others, as well; Lisa’s cookies, Kathy’s “Christmas Crack,” and many more. Joanne had a serious sweet tooth.
JoAnne was devoted to her two grandsons, Matthew and Aidan, with whom she cherished every moment, often letting them get away with things their parents would not. She delighted in their accomplishments, encouraged their interests, and gave great hugs.
She also leaves behind two beloved feline companions, Tate and Joey, who will miss her love, snuggles and treats.
JoAnne treated friends as warmly as family. She wrote personal and funny cards and in later years, she was notorious for her hilarious use of emoji filled text messages.
To those who knew her well, JoAnne showed inspirational strength and resilience through life’s challenges. She personified the power of forgiveness and reinvention: she used that strength and resilience to transform herself for the better - rebuilding a healthier life for herself and her family. Her legacy will be her profound love for her family and friends, her kindness to others, courage and perseverance.
Visitation will be at Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home in Suffern, New York on Saturday, January 5th from 12:00 to 3:00. Memorial donations can be made to the Wildlife Conservation Society https://secure.wcs.org/donate/make-tribute-gift or to Warrior Expeditions www.warriorexpeditions.org
