Earline Niles Etheridge, 89, of Hanahan, entered into eternal rest at 4:47am on January 3, 2019, at her home. She is preceeded in death by her husband of 66 years, Charles Daniel Etheridge better known to his friends as Chicken and her sister Peggy Sheppard. She was born November 23rd, 1929 in Birmingham, AL, a daughter of the late Earl Niles and Magdalene Maddox Niles. The Niles family moved to the Charleston area for work at the Naval shipyard. Earline was a graduate of Bob Jones Academy and University. She was an educator who taught kindergarten for 29 years and never met a child who she could not love. Awarded Teacher of the year for two years from the kindergarden association and was appeared in the Who's Who paper. She was the president of the South Carolina Association for Children under Six. Earline eventually retired from Charleston Heights Academy in 1990. Earline volunteered at the Medical University Children's Hospital for many years and at The Charles Web Center for Speech and Hearing. Earline and Chicken had a love for camping and spent many years in the Lowcountry Camping Club. She was also a member of First Baptist Church of N. Charleston, later moving her membership to Remount Road Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Charles Daniel and wife Debra Etheridge Jr.; daughter, Donna Etheridge; sister, Dottie and husband Dick Ensinger; brother, Henry Thomas and wife Ramona Niles; three grandchildren Ernest C. Hood IV Pharm D and wife Rachael; Magdalene Elizabeth (Maggie) and husband Johnathan Hairod; Daniel Welsey and wife Melanie Hood; and five great-grandchildren, Hunter Sanders (9), Connor Hairod (4), Charles Hairod (1), Genevieve Hood (1), and Hannah Hood (1).
The relatives and friends of Earline Etheridge are invited to attend her funeral services on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at 3 p.m. at Remount Road Baptist Church, and burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for visitation Sunday from 2-3 p.m. at the church.
