Mom was born Margaret Ann Seiser on July 9th, 1933 in Dayton, Ohio. She married Roland (Pete) Lowrey and they spent 68 wonderful, loving years together. They raised 7 children and instilled in them a love for God, to embrace prayer, and always be mindful of their Souls. Mom and Dad were eventually blessed with 24 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren! What an incredible legacy, and how Mom enjoyed them too! Every graduation, every performance, every accomplishment of her family that she could attend, she did with joy! She was always ready with a hug and compliment. Mom was always so full of life, it is hard for us to fathom that she is gone.
Every day for Mom was busy and full of activity. She started her day in prayer and taking care of Dad. Monday was “dance day”. Mom had been tap dancing with her ladies’ group for at least 25 years. She loved those gals and they loved her. Her final performance was with the Silver Fox Follies in September, a benefit for special needs kids in the area. Tuesdays and Thursdays were “gym” days. She and Dad would go together. Mom danced some “Zumba” while Dad did the weight machines. All the girls there will miss her and the joy and energy she brought! Wednesdays and Fridays were very special days. That’s when she and Dad would go to work for Saint Joseph’s Hill of Hope in Brea. She believed in the truth of the Miracle of Saint Joseph and worked for nearly 50 years in support of it. Her many lifelong friends there are already missing her greatly. Saturdays, for Mom, was the day to do the chores and errands, just like so many of us. The evening was dedicated to song and Holy Mass. She had sung in the church choir since she was a child and helped to guide and teach the girls’ choir here at our little church in Guasti.
When she had a small stroke a year ago, Mom lost some control of her vocal chords and had to quit singing, and while that was hard for her, she never lost her love for it. When she was in the hospital over Christmas, one of her many granddaughters Face-timed with her so we could celebrate Midnight Mass with our church family. When she heard the girls’ choir singing, tears of joy ran down her cheeks! Sunday mornings began with early Mass and, for years, Mom sang then also. Breakfast afterwards and visiting with family and friends was always a treat. These special moments will be what we all miss the most.
Mom had so many interests beyond her daily routine. She loved puzzles! She worked the crossword puzzles, jumbles and Sudoku in the paper and usually had a jigsaw puzzle going at the same time as well. These helped keep her mind sharp as a tack! But it wasn’t all just games at home, she was a Disneyland passholder for many years and loved doing the scavenger hunts there with her daughters. What a great team member she was! She loved game night, board games, card games, any games, and boy was she competitive! She loved going on field trips with grandchildren, and never stopped her love of adventure and the joy of learning something new. She adored the botanical gardens and going to Santa Anita with the whole family. Oh, what fun times we had!
Family camping was the vacation of choice from our childhood and, as grownups, we continued that proud tradition and Mom and Dad still occasionally joined in. Mom loved, loved, loved, Wuksachi Lodge in Sequoia. She taught us all to respect and enjoy nature, especially the quiet pleasure of birdwatching. The peace and tranquility of spending moments in God’s creation brought such joy to her and all of us. Mom was also a thoroughly creative soul! Through the years she has cross-stitched, painted, sewed and created many wonderful and unique pieces.
Mother’s Day was always a very special day with and for our dear Mom. We would usually go to early Mass in the morning with our families, and then, the daughters would take Mom out for a day on the town! Through the years we went to amazing stage shows, Disney outings, dinners and entertainment at the Jazz Kitchen, trips to Catalina, miniature golfing, shopping, Santa Anita… we looked forward to a girls’ day with Mom all year. The shared laughter, fun, camaraderie and love was so very special to each of us girls.
Oh, my goodness! How much we miss our wonderful, beautiful Mom! We, as a family, were so, so blessed by God to have her as a Wife, a Mother, a Grandmother, a Great Grandmother and a Great, Great Grandmother. Her love was boundless, sometimes stern, but always, always, she worked and prayed for the good of our family.
We love you, Mom, more than words can say. We know that you will never stop loving us and working for the good of our Souls.
