Patricia Louise Kougar-Melton, age 75, passed away on December 25, 2018, in the home of her sister-in-law in Georgetown, Texas. She was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to Tolbert Henry and Era Lou Willis Belcher. Pat grew up in a military family. Her father retired as a Colonel in the US Air Force to St. Petersburg, Florida where she attended high school and Florida State University graduating with a Master of Science degree in Industrial Design and Art EN. She started her teaching career in Sarasota, Florida in 1965, eventually moving to Montana and Los Angeles, California.
After moving to Texas she met Thomas Roger Melton and they married on March 10, 1977, in Houston, Texas. Pat's teaching career spanned for a total of 48 years, 40 of which was with Spring Branch ISD in Houston. Pat was certified as an Artist/Graphic Designer and Technology Applications teacher, while also serving as an Adobe Educational Leader. The last 8 years of her career she was the head producer of the Spring Woods High School Television Broadcast Studio and Video Tech program and served as the school district’s Lead Technology Applications Teacher. She received several awards, including the Fund for Teachers, Houston A+ Challenge Teacher Externship and the Jim Moore Memorial Award. Retiring in 2013, Pat continued her art and graphic work with several organizations, one of which was Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Key Women Educators where she was a member and her chapter's Webmaster. She also served The Northwest Houston Inspirational Writers Alive! as ebmaster. Pat volunteered at Copperfield Church where she was a member and very active with the Women's Seniors Group. She was their photographer and printed the senior newsletter. She faithfully attended Bible study and other church activities. Pat was a long time member of the Manatee Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
Her devoted husband, Roger of 32 years, died February 3, 2009. She is survived by 2 sisters-in-laws, several nephews and nieces and their families.
A memorial celebration of Pat's life will be held at Copperfield Church, 8350 Hwy 6 N, Houston 77095 on January 19, 2019 at 11:00 A.M.
