Alton Butler Bridges (93) passed away on January 3, 2019. He was born in Forest City on September 10, 1925 to Alton Rush and L. Dee Bridges. When he was 10 years old, the family moved to Fort Mill, SC where he graduated from Fort Mill High School. He joined the Navy during World War II at the age of 17. He was a graduate of UNCC. He married Louise Ross and had three children, Susan, and twins Donnie and Linda. He worked for Charlotte Memorial Hospital (now Atrium) for most of his career. After retiring, he sold real estate for several years.
He loved working in the yard, especially in his large garden. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke to tell anyone he saw. He loved to read, especially books about history. He was known for his beautiful, infectious smile.
He is survived by his wife, Louise, his children, Susan Honbarger (Kevin), Linda Mazzucca, and Donald Ross Bridges, his grandchildren, Matthew Mazzucca, Sarah Honbarger, Natalie Mazzucca, and Emily Honbarger, his sister Joanne Thompson, and his niece and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, James Donald Bridges.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 11am at First Baptist Church of Matthews located at 185 S Trade Street. The family will greet friends at 10am. Interment will be at Sharon Memorial Park.
