Charles F. Hall passed away on January 4, 2019 at the Laurels of Forest Glenn at the age of 92. He was born on August 15, 1926 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Frank Hall and Jeanette Graham Hall. He grew up on Pope Field at Fort Bragg, where his father, was a career soldier in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In 1938, Mr. Hall’s father and his family were transferred to Hickam Field, Hawaii, where they experienced the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Mr. Hall served honorably in the United States Navy in WWII, entering the service in 1944.
He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Mr. Hall was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and he was a longtime member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh. He was a retired career state employee and retired as Director of the Division of Jail and Detention Services.
Charles was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Marian Barrett Hall and son James Cameron Hall.
He is survived by his son, Charles Frank Hall Jr. and his wife, Rachel Bordeaux Hall, of Kinston, N.C.; granddaughter, Alison Hall Thurman and her husband James of Raleigh N.C.; grandson, Charles R. Hall and his wife Jessica of Durham, N.C.; a great-grandson, William R. Thurman of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, Harold G. Hall and sister-in- law Ann Smith Hall, of Raleigh. Also remembered are his nephew, Dr. James G. Hall and family of Spartanburg, S.C.; and niece, Mary Battle Hall Roethling and family of Goldsboro, N.C.
A time of visitation will be held from 11 am - 12 pm Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary’s Street, Raleigh, where a funeral service will begin at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at 3:00 pm at Cross Creek Cemetery in Fayetteville, N.C.
