Born on March 3, 1926 in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of William Barlow Pollard and Missouri Eva Pollard. She was the youngest of six children and grew up on the family farm on State Park Road.
She attended Lander College, then returned to Greenville where she held various jobs, including sales for Ivey's department store where she also modeled for ads. She was working as a telephone operator when she met her first husband, Joe Barnett. When the family moved to the Atlanta area, she worked in her children's school cafeteria, and later at Equifax, where she was a teller in the company's bank.
Pollyann was extremely gifted in art and music. She created many oil paintings and also worked in pastels. She also did ceramics, needlepoint, decoupage and other crafts. She could play the piano by ear, and she loved to dance. But as accomplished as she was in the arts, she will probably be remembered best for her wonderful sense of humor.
She was a lifelong Methodist and member of Jackson Grove United Methodist Church in Travelers Rest, SC.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Joe Foster Barnett, her son Joe Michael Barnett, and her second husband, Henry Casper Martin. She is survived by her children, Betty Williams Prather of Acworth, GA, Jennifer Robinson (Doug) of Tucker, GA, daughter-in-law Deborah Howard Barnett of Houston, TX, Jane Kahler (David) of Orlando, FL, Bonnie Varble (Robert) and Nell Allen (Jim) of Tallahassee, FL, and Roy Martin (Loretta) of Monticello, FL; several nieces and nephews; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC, on January 12th at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Brenda Curtis officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Jackson Grove UMC (PO Box 1683, Travelers Rest, SC 29690) or to your favorite charity.
