It is with great sorrow that the family of Barbara Resnick Troetel announces her sudden passing on January 5, 2019 at the age of 74. She was born on May 15, 1944 in Mt. Vernon, NY and lived and raised her family there. She later moved to Scarsdale, NY. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, William M. Troetel, and by her three children, Joshua Troetel and Dana Troetel, both of New York City, and Scott Troetel of Boulder, Colorado. She is also survived by her three in-law children whom she adored, Shannon Troetel, George Papageorge and Shana Troetel. Her five grandchildren were the pride of her life: Sophia and Anna Troetel, Julian and Daphne Papageorge and Clutch Troetel. Barbara graduated with honors in history from the City College of New York and earned a M.S. in Library Science from Drexel University. After raising her three children, she pursued her true love of American history and earned a Ph.D. at the age of 52 from the Graduate Center of the City of New York. She taught American history at Queens College until her retirement at age 65. She was an avid gardener, an ardent Green Bay Packers football fan and a political junkie who loved the programming on WNYC and MSNBC. She will be remembered by those who loved her for her sense of humor, feisty spirit and sharp intellect. A service will be held on Friday, January 11 at the Riverside Memorial Chapel in Mt. Vernon, NY. Memorial donations may be made in Barbara’s memory to National Jewish Health, a hospital recognized for its treatment of respiratory, cardiac and immune diseases, a cause deeply important to Barbara.
