Millie was the devoted mother of Beth (Dan) Garrett, Matt Becker, and Timothy (Theresa) vonBecker; cherished grandmother of Jenna (Chris) Gerringer, Matt Garrett, Sarah Becker, Connor vonBecker, Emma (Caleb) Vermillion, Garrett vonBecker, and Isabella vonBecker; and dear sister of Laddie Ray, Erline Jones, and Jack (Linda) Ray. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Millie was born in Whitehall, Arkansas (the county seat of Harrisburg) on November 30, 1922 to Lloyd and Edith Ray who have preceded her in death. During her early childhood years, the Ray family moved to the St. Louis area. She and her siblings were raised in St. Louis County during the Great Depression and World War II, and because of that she and her siblings are members of the Greatest Generation. After graduating high school, Millie worked at Emerson Electric as a Key Punch Operator, and she also played on Emerson Electric’s women’s golf team.
In October of 1950, she married the love of her life, F.C. Becker, and the two were blessed with 3 children and 30 years of marriage before his passing in 1980. After her husband passed away, she went back to work as a Service Representative for Tipton. Because of her talkative nature and the ease with which she could strike up a conversation, Millie was very good at her job at Tipton, and it was very easy for her to make friends everywhere she went. After witnessing her two young sons be baptized, Millie was born again herself and remained a dedicated member of Hazelwood Baptist Church for many years. Throughout her adulthood and well into her 90s, Millie was always an avid golfer. She also enjoyed bowling; tending to her yard and flower garden; and spending quality time with her family whether they were at home or travelling the country. Millie was truly a lovely lady who will be remembered as independent, strong, resilient, and unapologetically honest. She was an amazing mom and grandma who loved unconditionally and would do anything for her kids and grandkids. She will truly be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Millie’s name to Samaritan’s Purse.
