Drummond, Carmen Ruiz, 93, of Cheyenne, WY passed away on Saturday January 5, 2019. Carmen was born on July 16, 1925 in Mandaue, Cebu, Philippines. Carmen was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was loved by all her family and friends. She overcame many difficulties throughout her life including surviving the Japanese occupation of the Philippines, immigrating to the United States as new physician in a male dominated medical field, and raising a family while working in the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospitals in Topeka and Wichita, KS. She became the Chief of Psychiatry at the Wichita VA and was so dedicated to supporting veterans that she started the Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Clinic VA. Even after her retirement from the VA, she continued to work as a locum tenens psychiatrist at various facilities throughout the US until her eventual retirement at the age of 80. She was a hero to friends and family alike. She was preceded in death by her husband; William T. Drummond, Sr. of 48 years. Survivors include her son; William T. (Mary) Drummond, Jr. of Westampton, NJ; daughter; Denyse (James) Schumacher of Cheyenne, WY; son; Robert J. (Gaye) Drummond of Roanoke, TX; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Thursday January 10, 2019 at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita. Entombment will follow in Lakeview Mausoleum, Wichita.
