Major General Edward C. Binder was born In Omaha, NE, on August 11th, 1923, to Clarence and Myree Binder. He graduated from Omaha Central High School in 1941 and attended Kemper Military School in Booneville, MO, graduating in 1943. General Binder began his military service when he enlisted in the US Army at Ft. Crook, NE, in June 1943. He served in the Infantry branch in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. He returned to Nebraska in 1946 where he met and married Roma Chilcott. This marriage was blessed with two children, Gary and Nancy. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Colorado Army National Guard in 1948 and later served in the New Mexico National Guard. Ed and Roma returned to Nebraska where Ed then served in the Nebraska National Guard. By the time he retired in 1983, he had more than 40 years of service and retired as the Adjutant General of the Nebraska National Guard. During and after his military career, he was very active in the American Legion, serving as Commander of Lincoln’s Post #3 and as State Commander of the American Legion. After retirement, Ed served as a volunteer in many activities such as Cornhusker Boys’ State and assisting people with homestead exemption applications. During his later years, he served as a volunteer at the information desk in the Lincoln-Lancaster City-County Building, where he was recognized for his long time volunteer efforts. He is survived by his children, three grandsons; Matt, Michael (Janel) and Jonathan (Samantha) and six great grandchildren, Brooke, Kaylee, Lucas, Megan, Kenzie and Kyler. Services 11AM Monday, 1/14/2019, at Grace Lutheran Church, 22nd and Washington Streets, Lincoln, NE. Reception to follow at church. Interment at 2PM at Lincoln Memorial Park. Memorials to Grace Lutheran Church or the Nebraska National Guard Museum.
