Tommie Jocille Holt Alvis, age 84, born January 3, 1935 in Haskell County, Texas, passed on from this earthly life on January 8, 2019 in Fort Worth, Texas. She was born to J. C. Holt and Clara Mena Brite Holt.
A committal service will on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 2:00p.m. at DFW National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her dear husband and partner in life.
Tommie graduated Haskell High School in west Texas in 1953. That same year, she met and married Kenneth Ray Alvis, with whom she shared 65 years of life, love, a remarkable work ethic, and the raising of their family. They started out as young marrieds in the Army, welcoming their first two children on base; one in El Paso, TX and one in Valley Forge, PA. After the Army, they made their permanent home in Fort Worth, Texas and soon welcomed their third child. A few years later they traded their starter home for the beloved family acreage where Tommie and Kenneth poured their hearts and souls into giving their family a wholesome and fulfilling upbringing. Tommie also enjoyed her long career as a legal secretary. She approached her work with the same passion and determination as everything else in her life. If it was worth doing, it was worth giving her all.
Even in Tommie’s later years, never one to sit and do nothing, she would always be found working on a project whether it be crocheting heirloom afghans, hand-painting ceramic figurines, creating wall paintings, making special occasion wreaths, or sewing ornate appliqued Christmas stockings. Tommie loved Texas and the United States of America and believed she lived in the greatest place on Earth.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Ray Alvis, daughter, Karen Denise Alvis Bennett, parents, J. C. Holt and Clara Mena Brite Holt, and siblings, W. C. Holt, Jewell Holt Pittman, JC Holt, Robert Jerry Holt.
Tommie is survived by her children, Kenneth Ray Alvis, Jr. and Kelly Lynn Alvis Haines; grandchildren, Briana Bennett Edwards, Katrissa Bennett, Colton Bennett, Tyler Alvis, Wyatt Alvis, John Rowe, Jr., and Buddy Rowe; and great grandchildren, Imogen Edwards, Reegan Russell, Caspian Bennett, and Kaden Rowe. Also survived by sisters, Gene Holt Jeter, Amelia Holt Perry, Jeanette Holt Ramos, and Jane Holt Rowland, numerous loved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Special mention goes to Betty Merle Pittman Chandler, Tommie's first niece and closest friend; and to Tim Harvard, the attorney she enjoyed serving for many years until her retirement and loved as a son.
