Born in Cambridge, MA, Tony was the son of the late Rocco and Assunta (Massa) DiBenedetto.
A graduate of Cambridge High School, Tony was employed by the city of Fall River, retiring as the Chief Loan Originator at Community Development Agency after more than 30 years. Tony was also known as the “Voice of the Durfee Hilltoppers” as the play-by-play announcer of the high school’s football and basketball games. In his spare time, he was a member of the Sons of Italy, VFW, American Legion, Veterans Association of Bristol County and the Italian-American War Veterans Council. He also enjoyed photography and was an avid Boston sports fan, especially the Red Sox and Patriots.
Besides his devoted wife, he is also survived by his daughters, Mary Camara of Fall River, and Suzann Sullivan and her husband James of Swansea, one grandson, Joshua Sullivan, and his siblings, Gene DiBenedetto of NC, Anita Gonsalves and Dorothy Young both of Tewksbury and Rosemary List of Somerville.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 15 at 8:00 AM from Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St, Fall River, followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St, Fall River, Military Funeral Honors to follow. Burial will be private. His visitation will be held on Monday, January 14 from 4:00-7:00 PM.
